ABOUT THE BAND

Originated from East Hampton, Connecticut,  Conor Philips and Nick Claps got together and started learning their favorite songs to play. Once mastering this, they started to throw some covers on YouTube and eventually created a rough version of their first song ever, "It's Not Your Fault". With this success, Conor and Nick decided it was time to bring in another guitar player, Ian Schrager. After countless hours spent reading dictionaries and thesaurus's, the group finally agreed on the name, "The Merks" for the title of their new band. This name derived from an inside joke from years prior, and therefore felt like the best pick. Now with a new name and a three steady musicians, The Merks decided it was time to find themselves a drummer. Without having to search far, they recruited thier best friend Jayson Baker to play. With the band members set, Ian decided to switch over to base and The Merks were ready to start making a name for themselves. Since then the band has seen great success. As inspiration they have been writing more and more songs with influences from The Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Pete Doherty, The Libertines, Oasis, and so many more. Since their start, The Merks have played at many shows across Connecticut and New York City, and are constantly coming up with more new ideas and music.
